background

Stainless steel first came to India in the 1940s. It slowly replaced earthen pots and copper utensils, iron, copper and brass. It became popular in Bombay's C Ward and in the shops of Kansara Chawl, starting a new chapter for the industry.

OUR FOUNDATION
The First Steps of SSMA

In 1957, a small group of stainless steel merchants came together in Bombay. These visionary merchants included Ramanbhai (Dali), Narottamdas Vadilal Shah, K. B. Agarwal, Mafatlal Girdharlal Shah, Kisandas Mehta, Manmohandas Bhai, and Ramaniklal C. Mehta. Their goal was to help each other and make life better for the stainless steel industry.

Standing Together

The association worked to solve everyday problems faced by merchants, manufacturers, and brokers, bring traders together, and speak as one voice to represent the stainless steel industry to the government. They pushed for better policies, tax benefits, and waivers that would make business easier for everyone.

Building Something New

SSMA became the first stainless steel association in Mumbai, India. It helped build simple, fair, and uniform ways of working in the market. The association also worked to educate members about laws and provide a platform for upcoming merchants and traders.
